Breastfeeding friendly workplace is simply good business.

Continuing to breastfeed after returning to work can be a logistical and practical challenge. While state and federal laws require that employers provide time and space to express milk, the reality is that many businesses don’t know where to start when it comes to supporting a new mom’s need to express milk or feed her child at work.

First 5 Ventura County’s is helping businesses and breastfeeding families with our Workplace Breastfeeding Campaign. We’re connecting with local businesses to help them understand the laws and identify ways that they can better  support moms without a major overhaul. Simple changes, like adding a comfortable chair and water to an unused office, and making sure that breastfeeding resource literature is available for new moms (and dads) can go a long way.

In partnership with the Breastfeeding Coalition of Ventura County, we are also recognizing the businesses who do this well will a Breastfeeding Friendly (BFF) certification. This recognition is issued to businesses with a written breastfeeding policy that go above the beyond the legal requirements in supporting breastfeeding.
