Shelter Materials Consultant

First 5 Ventura County is seeking a consultant, with specific expertise in early learning environments and a basic understanding of homelessness and children living in shelters or transitional living arrangements, to conduct a brief survey of Ventura County homeless, domestic violence, residential treatment shelters/transitional living facilities where children ages 0-5 are present to assess site specific opportunities for making investments in child-friendly spaces and materials. The consultant will develop recommendations for appropriate materials/supplies based on identified needs across multiple sites, and criteria for site selection. The consultant will then work with selected/approved sites to implement materials/supplies investments. Work must be completed by the end of June, 2012.

To apply, please submit a resume and no more than 1.5 to 2 pages describing:

  • Qualifications in assessing, designing, and implementing early learning environments and knowledge relating to needs of families in homeless/transitional living shelters. Include knowledge of Ventura County communities, and familiarity with existing resources.
  • Proposed approach, brief work plan and proposed consulting fee.

Maximum amount available for consultant services is $4,000. Consultant bids will be evaluated on the basis of cost, expertise, and proposed approach.
