Healthy kids’ meals highlight local restaurant menus.

First 5 Ventura County developed the Good for Kids campaign to increase the availability of tasty, healthy and affordable menu choices for children and to recognize restaurants that play a positive role in community health.

One out of every three children in the U.S. is overweight or obese. In Ventura County 34% of children ages two to five and 43% of those five to 20 years old were overweight or obese. Surrounding families with healthy options is key to changing this trend. Restaurants are stepping up. And families are taking note.

Participating Good for Kids restaurants offer at least one item on their children’s menu that meets criteria established by F5VC and nutritionists at the California Institute for Health and Longevity. Those that commit to offering healthy option for one year become Good for Kids certified and display the Good for Kids seal of approval in their window.
