Because the first 5 years impact a lifetime. . .

It’s All About Partnerships
Working with parents, schools, communities, business, social and healthcare agencies, First 5 Ventura County works to fill the gaps through its network of essential health, learning and family strengthening resources–a network that strengthens futures for children, families and communities.

Community-Based Support
At the heart of First 5 Ventura County are 11 First 5 Neighborhoods for Learning (NfLs) located in communities across Ventura County. This nationally recognized, place-based model provides services—like preschool, parent/child classes and parent education—and connects families with local resources to help them raise children who are healthy, nurtured, and prepared to meet their full potential.

Voter-Directed Funding
First 5 is funded through the Proposition 10 tobacco tax passed by voters in 1998. Partnerships, grants and donations enable us to make this funding do even more for local children and families.

The Big Picture
Proposition 10 created 58 independent local First 5 Commissions and a single, independent State Commission to help children throughout the state thrive. Together we are building an effective and efficient web of support for children and families that will strengthen children, families and communities for generations to come.
